Get Involved

Our volunteers make a huge difference in the lives of many of the children and their families who reside within our community. There are numerous ways to become involved.

  • CHILDCARE VOLUNTEERS: Interact with children and provide them with a safe and nurturing environment. Volunteers must be 18 years of age and submit to fingerprinting and a background check.
  • COMMUNITY RELATIONS VOLUNTEERS: Provide information to the community by the distribution of brochures, posters and flyers at a variety of community events.
  • FRIENDS OF THE CRISIS NURSERIES: Ensure community support for the agency through fundraising events and a community educational program.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEERS: Support the office staff with a variety of administrative tasks.
  • GROUP OPPORTUNITIES: Provide your members a hands-on activity to help at the nursery.
  • "MY BAGS": Do you like to sew? The Crisis Nursery gives a a personal "My Bag" to each child when he/she leaves the Nursery. Each drawstring bag, approximately 24 x 18 inches, holds a child's blanket, a new book, a teddy bear and personal hygiene items.

Other Ways to Be Involved

Sacramento Crisis Nurseries have always utilized the resources of Sacramento communities to provide support to clients and for the operation of the nurseries. Each of the nurseries was planned for and built by community residents, service organizations, businesses, and public and private agencies and organizations.

Sacramento Crisis Nurseries also receive numerous in-kind services, gifts and donations. For example, every room in both nurseries was adopted by volunteers who painted, decorated and furnished their room. Civic organizations, churches, and youth groups donate time working in the garden, sorting donations, and helping with other tasks. Building contractors donated materials and in-kind labor to renovate both nurseries. Visit the Wish List to find out what we currently need in the nursery.
